Obituary for James Evans

James E. Evans, resident of Webberville, died peacefully June 11, 2013 surrounded by the love of his family. He was 69 years of age.

James was born in Memphis, Michigan on January 25, 1944, son of the late Wilkie and Elizabeth (Rebert) Evans. He grew up in Richmond along with his six siblings. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Shortly after his service, Jim started working in the oil fields in Northern Michigan which eventually led him to Webberville. He founded Northfork farms in 1970, along with Mark Toteff in Kalkaska Michigan. As a breeding farm, it accumulated over 50 World, Reserve and Congress Halter Champions, breeding one of the All Time Greatest Stallions, Mr. Conclusion. He was one of Jim’s greatest accomplishments. As Mr. Conclusion grew, he became the Grand Champion Horse who in 2000 was inducted into the MQHA Hall of Fame. Jim, as well, in 2005 was inducted for his dedication to his horse and working with the Michigan Quarter Horse Youth Association. When Jim moved to Webberville, while still working in the oil fields, he alongside his partner, Christie Showerman, started to build NorthFork Outback-Farm. In 1990 it opened and remains running strong in the community.
Jim was very happy and often would say “I had a fun life”. He was always the life of the party and never met a stranger. Jim felt very fortunate to become a grandfather of four beautiful grandchildren who were the joy of his life. He enjoyed each and every moment he was able to share in their company. He touched an innumerable number of hearts and lives, and the friendship that he extended to others was a blessing to all who knew him. Our lives will be left with such an empty space without his smile, his endearing grouchiness, his swearing and his special ways. He will remain steadfast in our hearts forever.

He is the loving father of Nicole (Ryan) Schafer; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Lily, Piper and Hank; beloved brother of Pat (Ken) Iseler, Murray (Jan), Ray (Carol), Neil (Jan) and the late Chuck and Tom Evans; brother-in-law of Emily and Kelly; and dearest uncle of many nieces and nephews. Memorial Gathering will be held at NorthFork Outback-Farm, 3637 Morrice Rd, Webberville, MI 48892 Saturday starting at 3pm. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to Nicole Schafer for Jim’s grandchildren’s trust fund in care of Faulmann & Walsh Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Rd, Fraser, MI 48026.
