Richard Andrew Burkland, a longtime resident of Myakka City, Florida and Royal Oak, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was 56 years old.
Richard was born on October 20, 1961 in Royal Oak to Richard & Diane (nee Stephenson) Burkland. After graduating high school, he worked for many years as a tool maker in the tool and die industry. In 1978, he moved with his family to Florida and resided in the Sarasota-Bradenton area until moving to Myakka City in 2005. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving parents Richard and Diane Burkland; cherished daughter Ashley Blue; beloved siblings Christopher (Joyce) Burkland, Matthew Burkland, Lisa (Ralph) Cunningham, and Carrie (Steven) Maffey; granddaughter Lily; and eleven nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many friends and cousins in Michigan and Florida.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 9:30am until the time of funeral service at 11am at the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Michigan 48026. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery of Clinton Township. A memorial luncheon will be held following services.
